Women, can I tell you something? Men can watch the same movie over and over and over again and love that movie more and more. I realize I’m not telling you something you don’t know. More than likely you’ve watched your father, brother, boyfriend, husband, or friend sit and watch movies like Braveheart, Gladiator, Troy, The Patriot (American Braveheart), The Star Wars Trilogy, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and more over and over again.
You’ve probably asked them (much to their chagrin) “why do you watch the same thing over again?” Or, If you’re like my mother, then you try to ruin the end by saying something like, “you know he dies at the end.” So what’s the big deal…
A Mystery Revealed…
I want to uncap the reason for you today. The reason we can watch the same thing over and over again is not because we forget the ending, nor is it because we are dumb (necessarily), and it isn’t even that we like the actors/actresses in it. The reason we watch it is because we LOVE the epic story line. We love the hero who fights for the right thing. We love extent that is gone to in order to win. We love placing ourselves in the movie (to one degree or another) and being the hero in our own lives and the lives of our friends, families, associates, etc. This is what men love
If you are a woman reading this, let me tell you that for the most part this is how all men are wired…Just accept us!
A Little Deeper
Can I say something else? Movies like this resonate with me on a deeper level because they raise my affections for my God. He is the Great Hero in the history of time (and outside of time). He is the Great Leader, the Great Warrior, the Great Friend. He is William Wallace, Maximus, and Luke Skywalker of real life and history. The Bible reveals this over and over and tonight I kickoff a series for our Students where we point out THE Epic Hero of all time (and beyond time). I start in Genesis and for the rest of this school year we will be looking at each book of the Bible seeing this Rescuer as we get a bird’s eye view of the bible. Genesis lays it all out and is the prologue to help us uncover this Epic Hero and all that He does.
We’ll be adding audio for each week of this series if you’d like to keep up and will be available at the Jason Crandall Audio Channel.
